These are some of Andrea's current areas of interest & research:
- Adult Asperger's syndrome presents its own particular challenges, such as transitioning to college, the workforce, & dating/marriage relationships. I have previously offered a strengths-based class on this topic (to view a handout from the class, click here), and would be happy to offer a similar class for your family or group.
- I am also dedicated to supporting the spiritual needs and gifts of clients, including the distinctive ways these may be experienced by persons on the autism spectrum. Our faith communities may have been at times more or less supportive of these needs and gifts. Check back periodically for upcoming publication on these themes.
- Geriatric clients were a special focus during my outpatient work, and this allowed me to become increasingly sensitized to the need for more quality group home facilities serving this population. Too often, seniors and others with mental health issues spend their entire fixed income on minimal care, room & board. A spiritual commitment would seem to be needed; however, even so-called faith-based facilities may be abusive. I am interested in exploring ways in which persons who similarly perceive this need may come together in prayer, study, & service to create intentional community.
